I always enjoy it when people blog and give us a little insight into their normal day, so today you get a glimpse into a typical work day in the life of your very own Concateknit.
7:10am: Here's your cheeky Concateknit. I've just gotten coffee
from Peet's and I am standing on a side street in Coolidge Corner. When I drive in I stop in Coolidge Corner first and get some good coffee. Even with this stop to Coolidge Corner, it takes me less time to drive in than to commute via the bus and subway.
Mike won a Sirius radio last year, and although I was initially hesitant about paying for radio, now I don't know how I got along without it. If you make the picture bigger, you will see I am listening to "The Roadhouse" and a Patsy Cline song is playing. BTW - that's the inside of my car.
7:20am: Phase I of my walk from where I park my car to my office takes me up a little alley in Brookline. The houses in this neighborhood are really lovely and many of them are still single family homes. During the holidays they are really pretty, and even now, many of these homes still have wreaths hanging outside.
7:25am: The best thing I see on my walk to my office, however, is the bridge pictured above on the right. This bridge is behind a chain link fence, and you can see the branches that have grown between the steps. I love the idea of this bridge that goes nowhere, and always find myself pausing here in the mornings.
7:35am: This is my office first thing in the morning. Luckily for me, I don't need to turn on the lights while the sun is out as I get lovely natural light. Can you see the controlled chaos? Also, can you see my screen saver which is one of the wedding pictures that Kellee took?
2:00pm: I've mentioned before that I am a list maker. This is the list I made in preparation for Wendy's baby shower (oh, the irony). I like the fact that without even thinking about it, I wrote "smart" underneath an idea that I had while making the list (the idea is that I would buy some of the partially baked baguettes that are sold at the Milton Market instead of buying fresh baguettes and then having to worry about them becoming stale before we ate them). As you can also see from the note, I was working out a justification for putting off the grocery shopping until the very last minute. Have I ever mentioned that I really dislike going to the grocery store?
6:00pm: Getting ready to leave, you can see that the controlled chaos of the morning has turned into, well, just chaos. Sigh...
6:10pm: Past the bridge, I looked through the trees to see the moon above the Prudential Center. The night was lovely and crisp and quiet.
So, there you have it. A fairly typical day in my work life. I get coffee, I go to work, I make lists, I explode my office with paper and files, I go home, and then the cycle starts all over again...
Okay, here's the deal - what I'd really like now is to see a typical day in your life...so, if you blog and post some pictures of the things you see during your day, and then leave me a comment (or send me an email) with a link to your post, I will enter your name into a drawing for a little fun yarny something (hint: it's nice to have warm feet in the winter, yes?). You have until 2/25/07 to enter, and a winner will be chosen randomly and announced on 2/28/07. I hope you play along, it'll be fun and good times! With prizes! And fun!
I loved seeing these pictures of your day. I'll play along, too. Thanks for the great idea, Elisa.

I do like peeking into people's lives, too - now I just have to remember to do this... :)

I like that you have something on your desk that says "Yarn" HA HA!!! I must remember to do this, however I fear the freaky stares I will get from 18 year old boys as I photograph my morning walk to work.

Great -- another reason for my coworkers to think I'm weird. I will have to do this this week.

You just gave me the incentive I need to get off my ass and start blogging. I have been proscrastinating for a long time now. Tomorrow: buy digital camera (Canon Powershot SD550). Saturday: learn to use camera. Set up flikr account. Sunday: set up typepad account and do first post. Monday: photograph my workday. Now that I've made a list and publicly announced this, it must be done!
