Last weekend, Mike and I went to the Central Coast for a long weekend getaway. The weather was gorgeous, as was the view, and the company and food were spectacular. I have a number of photos to download and share with you still, but in the meantime I thought I'd share with you the yarn that I bought in San Luis Obispo last Sunday.
As I always do when I travel, I researched the yarn shops in the area and found one that looked particularly interesting, Yarns...at the Adobe. I was excited to visit downtown SLO in general, and even more excited when I realized there was a yarn store to visit as well.
When I walked into the shop I was greeted warmly and pointed immediately (without being asked) to the corner of the shop that carries their local independent dyers. That was so awesome because honestly - I do not NEED more yarn, but given the opportunity to purchase yarn from independent dyers I'm not familiar with, I will absolutely do so.
The first thing I was drawn to was this yarn from Valkyrie Yarn & Fibre, in their Zebra series. Yup - Zebra series. This yarn will self-pattern into Zebra-like stripes and I am pretty stoked about it. Mike says he'd wear socks made from this yarn and so I know what socks I'll be knitting next after I finish my Paton's Kroy socks!
Valkyrie Yarn & Fibre Zebra series superwash and poly/nylon blend. I tried to find a link to this yarn, but failed - Ravelry does have some of her other yarns listed.
The other yarn that I ended up buying was some sock yarn that reminded me of Koigu KPPPM, which is absolutely my most favorite sock yarn. This yarn by Aslan Trends is sproingy and squooshy and in a colorway unlike anything else in my stash.
What's awesome is that I checked and double-checked the colorway and dye lot and these ARE matching. I'm going to be very interested in how these knit up. I love the bits of blue and yellow.
If you ever find yourself on the Central Coast, I would highly recommend a side trip to downtown SLO and Yarns at the Adobe. They have an amazing patio area to sit and knit and/or spin AND they are dog friendly (we didn't have the pups with us, but we will next time, and knowing where the dog friendly spots are help with the planning.)
I leave for St. Louis tomorrow and a fairly long and difficult week. My dad is having hernia repair surgery on Wednesday, so please think good thoughts for him. I'll be driving from St. Louis to Iowa to be there during his surgery and then flying out of Minneapolis on Thursday. I'm heading into this trip armed with books, audiobooks, and plenty of knitting...
I hope everyone has a great remainder of their weekend!
